Please know that the small type on the PPT will not be readable on zoom screens. The Screen share may be iffy also.

The document is also hard to read because it's in small gray type, not standard size and black in color. Fashionable nowadays, but not very useful.

Are the "Carterville" questions and statements standard?
When do we choose the questions and statements?
Example - they have "ease of parking" and we know we need to define by location - at least downtown and other.
We will need more on Environment, etc.
And more on Public Information Services - social media (and which one) separate from press releases, etc.
I would also be interested in how much of our local dollars are spent outside the city limits and to buy what type of products. This is not online purchases, but in-store purchases - what are WE missing?

Response to Mayor Hughson provided by Lauren Surley, Director of Communications:
Are the “Carterville” questions and statements standard?

Yes. There are options to customize and add questions. However, this sample survey shows the benchmarking questions that are asked to communities across the country.

This benchmarking survey provides a comprehensive and accurate picture of livability and resident perspectives about local government services, polices and management. The answers from this survey will help the City identify the needs of our community, in turn helping leaders prioritize the areas that need to be improved.

When do we choose the questions and statements?
During the work session on March 23, staff will be looking for direction on custom questions and if Council would like to move forward with the presented benchmarking survey.

Example – they have “ease of parking” and we know we need to define by location – at least downtown and other.
We will need more on Environment, etc.
And more on Public Information Services – social media (and which one) separate from press releases, etc.

We can include some of these questions as custom questions or look to poll the community by using the micro survey option. The quote provided to us allows up to 6 – 10 custom questions depending on length.

I would also be interested in how much of our local dollars are spent outside the city limits and to buy what type of products. This is not online purchases, but in-store purchases – what are WE missing?
POLCO offers many different benchmarking surveys that focus on areas just like this.
  • The National Business Survey (The NBS): helps you understand the local business climate for more effective budgeting, policy-making and planning for the future.
  • The National Employee Survey (The NES): helps you know the major issues facing employees that are crucial to smart management and policy.
  • The National Law Enforcement Survey (The NLES): helps strengthen community relationships, aligns resident and government priorities and increases community safety.
  • The Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults (CASOA): you can learn directly from the residents themselves how to best accommodate the needs of older adults in your community

With a focus on economic development, the City could look at doing another benchmark survey the following year, or focus these questions to residents via the micro survey option.
