Response provided by Shaun Condor, Interim Director of Engineering and Capital Improvement:
Is this a first step in this process, or does this agreement "pull the trigger" for the whole construction (as in no zoning/amendments/further approval required)?
This is the agreement with TxDOT Aviation for the city to fund its portion of the reconstruction of Taxiway Charlie only, which has been in the CIP for several years. This project has no impact on zoning. This is the last step required for construction to begin.
Will we alert surrounding communities that might be impacted by the construction?
Notifications will be made before construction begins, via the Communications Department, as appropriate. However, surrounding communities will not impacted as the work is within the airport property replacing an existing taxiway. The airport community is aware of the project and will be kept updated.
Would this be a good time to consider the Purple Air monitor program the Mayor and I have been discussing?
This project will reconstruct an existing taxiway in the same location and is not anticipated to bring in additional air traffic. Purple Air Monitoring is not being considered as a result of this project.
