Hold discussion regarding Historic Preservation Commission Recommendation Number 2021-05RR, that recommends that the City Council support alternative designation options, such as Neighborhood Conservation Districts and Cultural Heritage Districts as recommended in My Historic SMTX and provide direction to the City Manager.

This reminds me about the "Mexican American and Indigenous Heritage and Cultural Districts" we approved Nov 3, 2021. I can't find information about them on our website nor or a map. Do we have this on our website? If not, when might that happen?

The resolution addresses recommendations regarding Neighborhood Conservation and Cultural Heritage Districts in the My Historic SMTX City of San Marcos Historic Resources Survey Report, San Marcos, Texas, Phases 1 & 2 – September 2019. For the Neighborhood Conservation Districts, it sounds a lot like our Neighborhood CHARACTER Districts. Had we done these when recommended many years ago, we would have this information already?

If council says move forward, is it safe to assume the Neighborhood CHARACTER Districts will include historical information, which it would likely have included anyway?

Response provided by Greg Carr, Director of Neighborhood Enhancement:
The neighborhoods are still working on this item. They recently had a meeting to select the sign type and locations to put them. Another meeting will be scheduled to work on additional items. More information to follow.
