Response provided by Pete Binion, Assistant Director of Public Works:
Are we making money through this agreement, and if so is that currently just going into the general fund? Yes, the license agreement provides the city a license fee of 20 cents per trip that starts in the city. This past term that amount is $3,658.60 which will go into the general fund.
What issues have come up, were there any complaints or injuries? Staff received limited complaints of Spin vehicles on private property, and a couple of complaints per month of vehicles blocking pedestrian pathways. What has most likely limited complaints is SPIN’s staff responsiveness and city staff conducting twice weekly field audits to ensure program goals are met. Staff also meets bi-weekly with SPIN & the University. This past term there was one (1) reported injury. This injury did not require hospitalization.
What is SPIN's agreement with the University, is it the same as ours? The University agreement is very similar to the City agreement. However, the University agreement includes charging hubs with digital marketing screens. Advertising revenue is generated on the marketing screens and a portion is shared with the University. The city has not pursued the charging hubs with digital marketing screens because they are not permitted by the Land Development Code.
