Response to CM Baker provided by Greg Carr, Director of Neighborhood Services: We send (email or mail) a service calendar with the HHW information on it. We also do PSA’s throughout the year. We are checking with TCEQ on door to door service. There are several cities that do have a program for HHW that is similar to bulk pick up where residents call in for a pick up. Those programs are popular and if were implemented here would require additional staffing which would impact the garbage rates. We are looking at adding a Saturday collection day (which would make it more convenient for residents) at our HHW facility once other city services move to the new service center.
Response to Mayor Hughson provided by Greg Carr, Director of Neighborhood Services: Hays County pays $30,000 per year to help cover the cost of disposal. The Habitat Conservation Plan pays $30,000 per year which covers the labor through Green Guy. We don’t take anything from outside the county. HHW costs are calculated in to the overall garbage rate.
