Response provided by Fire Chief Les Stephens & Fire Captain, Jonathan Henderson:
For The Compliance Engine, are the notices sent by email? Initially, yes, they are sent by e-mail. If they are kicked back as an invalid e-mail, they would send them a notification by snail mail and they also follow up with phone calls. This information is also readily available to the Fire Marshal’s office via the Compliance Engine’s dashboard, so we can contact them by phone or in-person when necessary.
If so, what happens when the person who was designated to receive such email messages is no longer with that organization and those messages are going to no one? What happens when there is no response? See above, ultimately, we would make contact in person, when all else fails.
I was surprised that the Sprinkler System changes that will affect a couple of non-profits organizations was not noted in the ARF given the attention the council gave to that topic. What is the status of grants available for those organizations? I know it's only been a week to look so far. I’m not sure what grant opportunities are available to these specific non-profits or what grants they would/would not qualify for. I would defer to each of the respective non-profits for the correct answer to this question. Staff would propose setting the fee for submissions into Compliance Engine at $200 so that a portion of the funding could be set aside to create a grant program source of funding available to non-profits for retrofitting facilities. Council could also extend the compliance period if needed to allow this funding source to build.
